Sam P. built Gacha Gotcha around a problem many collectors face: the nearest store with Japanese gachapon machines might be hours away, or nonexistent. Fans of these capsule toy vending machines either had to plan special trips or simply go without.

Gacha Gotcha aimed to eliminate that barrier entirely, bringing the authentic thrill of gachapon pulls straight to customers’ screens, no travel required.

The problem: Most apps kill the magic of gacha

Sam’s vision went beyond selling random products. The goal was to capture that specific feeling you get when you turn the knob on a gachapon machine, not knowing what you’ll get, watching it drop, and the anticipation building.

Early attempts using other platforms revealed significant limitations:

Manual activation requirements meant Sam had to trigger each customer’s result personally. This destroyed the spontaneous nature of the experience and created fulfillment delays.

Forced inventory visibility was another dealbreaker. The issue was that the prize pool had to be visible in the shop, which would unfortunately make those items directly purchaseable, completely undermining the mystery element that makes gachapon exciting.

Passive purchasing turned what should be an interactive moment into a standard checkout. Customers bought something random, but they didn’t experience anything.

Sam needed technology that would accomplish three things:

  • Put control in the customer’s hands

  • Maintain the surprise factor

  • Actually feels fun to use

Mysbox solved the puzzle Gacha Gotcha had been trying to crack. The app enabled Sam to structure each product listing as its own digital gachapon machine. Here’s how it works:

Customers browse different prize packs, each showing what collectibles might be inside. After purchasing, they get to trigger the pull themselves. They can either reveal their prize immediately or let it auto-reveal within 24 hours.

What really elevated things? The animations. Each pull includes visual effects that mirror the experience of using a physical machine, that moment of anticipation as the capsule drops and opens.
